The band, the greatful dead , gave its fans a place to belong, they did not have to believe in any kind of right or wrong, they just promoted freedom. This started a community where the dead heads society began. As followers of a band a bad vibe came with that, society did not accept their gang like fan base and considered them deviant. Society labeled dead heads as a deviant subculture. Primary deviance, when the dead heads society started to make a name for them by making minor violations, and soon moved onto secondary deviance, the fans adopted the identity of as a dead head. Following the band around the country became a norm for. Dead heads and this is where hirschi"s theory of control explains what happens.
