Education - is the social institution responsible for the systematic transmission of knowledge, skills, and cultural values within a formally organized structure. Early socialization is primarily informal and takes place within our families and friendship networks. Socialization then passes to the schools and other, more formalized organizations created for the specific purpose of educating people. Cultural transmission - the process by which children and recent immigrants become acquainted with the dominant cultural beliefs, values, norms, and accumulated knowledge of a society. Informal preliterate societies y have no written language and are characterized by basic technology and is simple division of labour y daily activity is to survive y acquire knowledge through informal education (spontaneous, unplanned) y. Learning takes place in an academic setting (planned process , by teachers) y have written language, but few people know how to read and write y y. Mass education - refers to providing free, public schooling for wide segments of a nation.
