Reception y encoding/decoding- any type of text/medium is encoded with a particular meaning and t is up to us as the viewers/reader to determine that message y the manner in which we perceive things and make meaning. watching a movie is private, the experience itself is individualistic - you have the screen, dark, projector, seats. sutured into a film, into the reality of it this is why you get scared when watching horror movies, cry during romantic comedies. the screen that is the ultimate reality, you re sitting in the dark your= are situated in a way that you are complicit in allowing yourself to watch/suture yourself into the fantasy. our fantasies need to be sutured into movies as they offer us the ideal subject position. psychoanalysis looks at the notion suggesting we are not individuals per say but subjects.
