Found stone artifacts among the bones of a long-extinct bison. Folsom, new mexico first widely accepted evidence that people were here during the ice age. Blackwater draw locality #1 near town in new mexico, known as clovis. Both clovis and folsom have groove in common shape (called fluted or grooved points) Radiocarbon dating y wasn t used in buttermilk creek: used luminescence dating (calendar years) y 2000 years underestimated (11500 = 13500) Clovis sites y concentrate between 11,200-10,900 bp: people had to be in north america before the end of the ice age, wisconsinian ice age, 20,000-11,500 bp y pre-clovis /pre-projectile point, pre-paleoindian, sites before 11,500, most disproved. argue that corridor was closed between 20,000 and 11,000 years ago so clovis couldn t have come down through the corridor. some argue that corridor was free from 13,000 years ago (based on dates that were found)
