Cage was very influenced by a lot of non-western practices (buddhism, Has non-western percussion influence, but this influence also affected all of his music. There is no such thing as percussion art music before the 20th century. In cage"s music, there is always some structure. He means for some of his music to be silly, but if it is art, then it needs to have something man made in it. He does not mean for things to be simply natural; just occurring. But having something man made is all it takes to be art.
