Biology 1001A Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Speciation
Document Summary
Till now microevolution but now on macroevolution creation of new species. Example: african elephant & indian elephant these are considered separate species. Another elephant in africa that lives in the forest much smaller, different social system, much more solitary there were disagreement about if they were a different species when compared to the savana living elephants. Only after this were the forest elephants consevered. Yellow throated warbler and myrtle warbler they look very different so they are classified differently. If we look at enough phenotypic traits, we can eventually separate any two population into species as they form distinct cluster. Some population show a tremendous difference in phenotypically variation within a population. Example dogs, different breeds when using msc can be classified as different species. Some look too alike pretty much the same: they behave as if they can tell themselves apart. There is a lot of similarity - but are different species.
