In the 19th and early 20th centuries, mechanical calculators played a signif- icant role in the modernization of o ces of large institutions, organizations, and businesses in many parts of the world (for more information on this subject see [1]). While the impact of such calculators on trade, industry, sci- ence, and governmental agencies in europe and in the us is well documented, practically nothing is known about this subject in the canadian context. To the best of our knowledge, the history of the mechanical calculator industry in canada is not documented in any archival research publications.
