Background and context

Cladistics is a method of making a phylogenetic tree in which the organisms are classified according to the common derived characters. These characters help to trace back the recent ancestors of the organisms. In this method, the organisms are arranged in clades. These clades have common ancestors and share related characters. The clades in it have the characters that are not present in their ancestors but are derived afterwards.
