Background and context

The cell cycle is the cyclical series of growth and division whereby new daughter cells are produced from the pre-existing cell. Interphase and mitotic or M- phase are the 2 main stages of the cell cycle. Interphase involves the growth of cells along with the doubling of nuclear contents while M-phase involves karyokinesis and cytokinesis.
