In the play, oedipus causes trouble for not only thebes but also himself. The tragic hero becomes a problem for the people of thebes when he begins to rant on about the murder of the previous king. However, with this murder of laius brings a plague upon the city of. Thebes, oedipus curses the killer of the previous king and orders him to be killed. The tragic ruler exclaims that he had no involvement in the murder of laius; consequently later through the play it is revealed that no one other than oedipus was responsible for the murder. As a result, oedipus must leave the country in exile never to return again. Oedipus is a character that is controlled by his emotions; his temper is dangerous and makes him think irrationally (ex. Blames creon for the prophecy that was given/ thinks he"s trying to over throw him).
