They are predisposed to behave in certain ways: Mixed and inconsistent findings on predicting how personality affects performance: situational approach. Characteristics of the work setting (e. g. , rewards, punishment) influence people"s feelings, attitudes and behavior. Situational factors (e. g. , work tasks) job satisfaction. Ob is a function of both one"s dispositions and the situation he/she is in. To predict/understand ob, we need to know about individual"s personality + work setting. Weak situations: roles loosely defined, few rules, weak reinforcement and punishment contingencies. Strong situations: roles, rules, and contingencies are defined. Personality = less of an impact in strong situations. Some personality characteristics are useful in certain situations. There is no one best personality; managers must appreciate the advantages of employee diversity.
