Institutional foundations and the evolution of the state. Canada= colonial country, founded by people who moved to this part of the world from somewhere else. Newfoundland in the 11th century, the first europeans to arrive to what is now canada were. Many of the early settlers died from a range of illnesses associated with the harsh conditions (cold winters) The metis people, the descendants of marriages between europeans traders and aboriginal women. Europeans brought with them many diseases to which aboriginal people had not been previously exposed, and to which they had not developed prior immunity, many of them died.
