BIOL 201 Final: Cell cycle

54 views4 pages

Document Summary

Time: cells measurement and decision to enter mitosis: Concentration since a low concentration of a specific kinase could lead to a low phosphorylation. Because they can measure concentration, they can then measure time because concentration comes from the accumulation of molecules which come with time. Know the time passed according to the increase of concentration. The cyclin protein is accumulating and is degraded again and again and this is correlated with the cell cycle. When cell are dividing, cyclin concentration drops and then increase again. Cyclins are made continuously and destroyed at mitosis to reinitiate the timer. The cyclin proteins are extremely conserved across evolution. (same cyclins in human as in yeast. ) Everything discovered in yeast is the same as in human. By looking at some mutants that had problem going trough the cell cycle, we could discover which proteins and molecules were involved in the cycle. Cdk (cyclin dependent kinase): kinase that controls the entry in mitosis.
