Document Summary
Angiocatheter- a hollow, flexible tube inserted into a blood vessel to withdraw or instill fluids. Bolus- a single dose of a drug or other medicinal preparation given all at once. Cannula- a thin tube inserted into a vein or body cavity to administer medicine, drain off fluid, or insert a surgical instrument. Drip- the plastic tube is then left in so that fluids and medicines can be given directly into the blood via the vein. Embolus- a blood clot, air bubble, piece of fatty deposit, or other object that has been carried in the bloodstream to lodge in a vessel and cause an embolism. Factor drip rate- is the calibration or number of drops per ml of solution delivered for a particular drip chamber. Flow rate- is the volume of fluid which passes per unit time. Hydrostatic pressure- the pressure exerted by a fluid at equilibrium at a given point within the fluid, due to the force of gravity.
