Muscle heart : composed mainly of cardiac muscles and forms the bulk of the heart, cardiac muscle cells are joined to one another by connective tissue fibers and arranged in. It is the layer that contracts spiral or circular bundles: connective tissue fibers forms a network called fibrous skeleton of heart that reinforce myocardium and anchors the cardiac muscle fibers. Without this support, vessels and valves become stretched. And since connective tissue is not eclectically excitable, the fibrous skeleton limits the direct spread of action potential across the heart to specific pathways: endocardium. Inside the heart : white sheet of endothelium (squamous epithelium) resting on a thin connective tissue layer, continuous with the endothelial lining of the blood vessels leaving and entering the heart.
