30 years ago plates were made by hand, carver by plate makers. Most prosumer cameras have 2 main technologies: mirrorless upcoming, eg. Sony a58: digital single lens reflex (dslr) most popular, eg. Prices vary based on: size, resolution, complexity, reflective/transparency. What makes a good digital image depends on end-use: File formats: photoshop, tiff, or eps, do(cid:374)"t use giff o(cid:396) png, okay to use jpeg if (cid:455)ou k(cid:374)o(cid:449) (cid:449)hat (cid:455)ou"(cid:396)e doi(cid:374)g. Resolution: 2x rule: image has to have 2 pixels for every printed dot at its final size, too high: dark areas will fill in, loss of detail, too low: pixilation will occur. Size: image should be capture size-as or larger. You cannot properly increase the size afterwards. Restrictions: limited reproduction (digitizing) the way they can be. Image banks, model photography: limited modification/retouching, always confirm usage rights. To cmyk or not to cmyk: images being used for full colour printing will be converted to cmyk at some point.
