Document Summary

By the end of this module, you will be able to: understanding sources of data collection errors, recognize data collection errors. It is the responsibility of the researcher to try to reduce or eliminate errors. Firstly we must be aware of where these errors will derive from. Errors will derive from fieldworkers (or the researcher) or from the sample. Fieldworker s error will be either intentional or unintentional. Intentional fieldworker errors are when the researcher intentionally or willingly incorporates some bias or error into the data collection. Influencing the respondent would be an example of intentional fieldworker error. Unintentional fieldworker error is when, by no fault of their own, the fieldworker causes some error in the data collection process. A simple mistake in the delivery of the survey might lead to an error. Another source of error will be the respondent. Similar to the fieldworker, the respondent can deliver either intentional or unintentional errors.
