Research ideas can come from everyday life and phenomena that are observed. They have come from practical issues that need to be resolved, and past research. They can also come from theory by taking parts of that theory and empirically testing evidence. Explain why some ideas you might have cannot be subjected to a scientific investigation. The research idea must be able to be proven wrong or right. Religion cannot be a topic of research because you can never actually prove that a god does or doesn"t exist since it is all based on subjective views and beliefs. A literature review tells you what is already known about this field of research. It also provides ideas on how to design your study, what equipment is needed, how the variables can be tested. It is also important when conducting research to show how your research fits in with everything else that has been done.
