Pavlov"s famous experiment simplified some observations made by an associate of pavlov, To study this phenomenon more thoroughly, it was necessary to design a procedure in which the initially neutral cue (the sight of the sand) could be separated from the stimulus (sand in the mouth) that actually caused the salivation. Pavlov created some vague terms which are still used today these terms were specifically vague so that they could be used to describe any experiment on any example of conditioning. Unconditional stimulus (us): in classical conditioning, the stimulus that elicits the response before conditioning occurs. Unconditional response (ur): in classical conditioning, an innate response that is elicited by a stimulus in the absence of conditioning. Because the drooling response to food was not conditional on the experiment, drooling to the good was knows as the ur.
