Document Summary

Anthropology is the study of humankind in all times and places. Contains four major fields: cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, archaeology anthropology, and biological anthropology. Applied anthropology uses anthropological knowledge to solve practice problems. Cultural anthropologists study patterns in human behaviour, thought, and emotions (un-conscious standards that produce culture) Linguistic anthropologists study human languages (structure, history and how languages are used in particular social settings. Archaeologists study human cultures through the recovery and analysis of material and biological remains and environmental data. Biological anthropology focuses on humans as physical organisms; emphasize tracing the evolutionary development of the human animal and studying biological variation within the species today. Anthropologists conduct research through fieldwork which includes archaeological and paleoanthropological survey and excavation, living with a group of primate in their natural habitat, and gathering biological data while living with a group. After fieldwork, excavated remains or biological samples collected in the field are analyzed.
