64 views2 pages

Document Summary

The nervous system consists of 2 systems; the central nervous system (cns) and the peripheral nervous system (pns). The cns connects the spinal cord down your back to the brain while the pns connects everything in your body to the spinal cord and back to the cns. In the brain there are a lot of neurons, neurons grow every time we learn something new and old neurons come back when trying to relearn things. Neurons consist mainly of dendrites, cell body, myelin sheath and the terminal buds. Cell body: houses the nucleus, cytoplasm and many organelles and the metabolic activity here sustains the entire neuron. Axons: transmit bioelectric impulses away from the cell body. Myelin sheath: coats the axon in a protective coat and allowing impulses to travel at a faster rate. Terminal buds: sends the bioelectric impulse away from the neuron to another neuron or muscle.
