What is to be done? (1902): critique of economism . Split between mensheviks and bolsheviks (1903- ) Should the party follow history, or push it? By the 1890s almost all the leaders of the social democratic part were arrested/ ed. Lenin was a social democratic leader in exile. Workers had some bargaining power: got some concessions, got the rst legal limitation on working hours, 11. 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. More than just supporting workings in the way they are in the moment: the party had to be disciplined, wanted workers to make the connection between economics and politics. Doesn"t seem like a huge change but it was.
