De nitions: communication disorders can impair the either receive or send, process or comprehend verbal, nonverbal and graphic information. Scientists/researchers: audiologists, s-lps, linguists, engineers, physicians (neurologists, ear nose and throat, people in areas such as music, teaching, etc. Professional aides/assistants: ontario: communicative disorders assistant (cda); college-level course, british columbia: similar program, other similar unregulated professions. Class 2a- communication through the lifespan (don"t need to know slide 1-7: stats, lifespan) 3 key components of language: use (pragmatics, content (semantics, form (phonology, morphology, syntax) Use: complex manipulation of language, using language to convince, in uence, impart information, make jokes, etc, adults can adapt and adjust their register accordingly. Content: increase of vocabulary (30,000 to 60,000 words, receptive larger than expressive, multiple meanings and gurative meaning also increase. Form: more complex forms (pre xes, irregular verbs, etc. ) are added to, written language more complex than spoken. Class 2b- anatomy and physiology ; language and speech.
