Mischel: says traits are poor predictors of behaviours. Epsteis: says if you are going to use traits to predict behaviour in a speci c situation, then they are a poor predictor. but if they are used to predict average behaviour across similar situations, the traits are good predictors. We learn them because we get a payoff. According to the behavioural perspective, personality is shaped by environment.
