What is the role that technology plays in our society: there is a lot of messaging; there is a lot of advertising. How are products marketed to us: they are marketed to us because we are consumers and not necessarily because they are useful. Conspicuous consumption: luxury cars, high fashion, high technology is an example. We may not think about this consciously : the idea that all laptops can do a,b, c, d but we specifically choose a certain laptop because it make us look cooler. We need to realize that there are other ways of things; there are some things that need to be done manually. Consumption: shopping is an activity, this fetish around wanting to acquire stuff, hey what do you want to do today i don"t know let"s just go shopping and then you end up buying stuff you don"t need.
