Income inequality (global south has higher levels than global south) Poverty- not just income (lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality rates, less access to services, power, lower literacy rates, higher dropout rates) Poverty and inequality are linked to domestic and international power inequalities. Economic globalization- elimination of economic borders to facilitate trade and investment. The world economy has operated to place the global south at a distant disadvantage to achieve prosperity. Mncs exploit workers and do not pay them a living wage. Banks give loans with large interest rates. Imf offers to pay back loans if they do as they say. World bank supports labor flexibilization which allows you to fire workers very easily. World trade organization supported policies that made it difficult for countries of the global south to achieve poverty reduction.
