Behavior: anything that a person says or does. Ex: thinking and feeling via private self-talk (thinking in words) or imagining. Ex: getting an a on a test, losing 10 pounds. Frequency: # of instances in given time period. Used to refer to psychological problems (adhd, anxiety ) Used as adjective or adverb (ways of behaving) Can negatively affect the way an individual might be treated. = systemic application of learning principles and techniques to assess and improve individuals covert and overt behaviors in order to enhance their daily functioning. Target behaviors: behaviors to be improved in a behavior modification program. Behavioral assessment: involves collection and analysis of information and data in order to: identify and describe target behaviors, identify possible causes of the behavior, guide the selection of an appropriate behavioral treatment, evaluate treatment outcomes. One type = functional analysis: isolating causes of problem behavior and removing/reversing them. Wolpe: treatment for phobias, first referred to as behavior therapy.
