Document Summary

Wundt is credited with founding the first laboratory in psychology and researching the psychology of language. Studied the relationship between experience and words used to describe it. He used tree diagrams to describe the relationships between parts of our overall experience. Ex to describe the experience of listening to music, we can say the music is loud (subject -> predicate) Anyone who hears this can reconstruct the experience by reversing the process (predicate -> subject) Wundt"s model is similar to modern notions, including noam chomsky"s formulations. Chomsky is one of the 10 most cited-writers in history. In syntactic structures, he considered the way we produce sentences. A sentence is a grammatical structure and is recognized by native speakers. There are an infinite number of possible sentences in a language. Language is open-ended and consists of all possible sentences. Speech consists of sentences that are actually spoken. There must be rules (grammar) that are used to generate sentences.
