The pull of the recent": our fossil collections and species count is more accurate in recent time. Less rock (erosion) destroys evidence and soft- bodied creatures are not preserved. Few specimens are found from older and older eras. Diversity curve graphs show that there are increasing amount of biodiversity towards now, but is really a flat curve. Paleontology: is the study of prehistoric life. It includes that study of fossils to examine evolution and biotic interactions through time. Fossils and the rocks they are embedded in give information on geological time and environment. Can only be preserved in sedimentary rock and deposited usually in water, beds tend to be planar, buried quickly.
