Critical and analytical reading is a process where you insert yourself into the text. It is approaching a text strategically and purposefully in an effort to understand and experience it at a deeper level by making analytical observations of the details, observing the patterns, and looking for anomalies. The assumption that the writer makes that the reader has the same ideals as the writer. It is effected by tone, mood, word choice, assumptions, and sentence style. 4 strategies to start to implement to read analytically: suspend judgment (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Do not be concerned with like or dislike but more so whether or not the text was interesting and why. Move beyond liking and disliking intro and thesis, body and conclusion: look at significant parts of the text.
