Feminism
-Social movement that aims to establish equality among the sexes in
economics, politics, and society.
Heterosexism
-Where heterosexual couples are favoured thus discriminating same-sex
couples.
Intersectionality
-Seeks to show how race, class, gender etc. interact on simultaneous levels
contributing to systematic social inequality.
Eurocentrism
-Practice of viewing the world from a European perspective and, either
subconsciously or consciously, believe in the preeminence of European
culture.
Reproductive Rights
-Legal rights and freedoms relating to reproduction and reproductive health.
Gender-Binary System
-The classification of sex and gender into two distinct and disconnected forms
of masculine and feminine.
Heteronormativity
-Maintains that people fall into two separate genders (man and woman) while
also holding that heterosexuality is normal.
Two-Spirit
-First Nations term for having mixed gender roles; simultaneous masculine
and feminine spirits.
Imperialism
-The creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural, and
territorial relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an
empire, based on domination and subordination.
Genocide
-Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of
an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.

-Term used for the imitation/depiction of aspects of Eastern cultures in the
West.
Positive Eugenics
-Aimed at encouraging reproduction among the genetically advantaged.
Negative Eugenics
-Aimed at lowering fertility among the genetically disadvantaged
Patriarchy
-The notion that the Male is the primary authority figure.
Industrial Capitalism
-Characterized by the increasing use of machinery to maintain an economic
balance through its production processes
Nuclear Family
-Consists of a father and mother and their children. Typically white, middle-
upper class.
Commodification
-The transformation of goods and services (or things that may not normally be
regarded as a goods or service) into a commodity.
Consumerism
-Social and economic order that is based on the systematic creation and
fostering of a desire to purchase goods and services in ever-greater amounts
Militarization
-A step-by-step process by which a person or a thing gradually comes to be
controlled by the military or comes to depend for its well being on militaristic
ideas. The more militarization transforms an individual or a society, the more
that individual or society comes to imagine military needs…to be not only
