Athlete admitting defeat in pancration hallanodik watches with swtch. Greek vase, 460-45 bce - in off season, stadion was used for grazing cattle or for growing wheat. the skammata were dug during the competition for jumping in the pentahtlon. In the bouleuterion- formal oath is administered in front of statue of zeus. We do not know the oath, but we have a description of it: Gold ring with image of zeus horkios with altar and sacrificial pig. Athlete procession from the sanctuary to the stadion, passing by the zanes. Zanes: first group made in 388 bce and second group in 322 bce. Pythian games at delphi 2nd panhellenic crown competition (stephanitic games) Bronze age settlement with cult activity, house structures in main sanctuary, but settlement declined markedly until 875/860 bce. Tripod corpus is smaller and less well preserved than at olympia (but this does not mean less tripods were dedicated)
