Court of justice of the european union (ecj) High court work is mainly civil and is handled by 3 divisions . Chancery division = trusts, mortgages, probate, company law, insolvency. Queens bench division = contract and tort that are unsuitable for the county court. Family division = matrimonial, family issues eg. adoption / divorces. Each of these divisions hears cases at first instance and appeals from other courts (when hearing an appeal it"s called a divisional court) Civil division hears appeals from the high court and county court. Criminal division hears appeals from the crown court. Supreme court = highest appeal court in england and wales. One judge from each member state sits in. Ensures eu law is interpreted and applied equally in each member state. If english court case involves an eu law that is unclear, they can help interpret it. This interpretation is binding on all english courts in future cases.
