Napoleonic europe part 2: the continental system was a boycott of english goods in france and its allied territories. There was violent unrest often under napoleonic rule with religious overtone. In germany there was resistance among intellectuals: the campaigns in russia and spain were mistakes because they failed greatly. They failed because the french got trapped in russia; the russians drew them into moscow and torched the city and the fields of food around it. The russians destroyed the french crops and food. As well the french were not equipped well for the russian winters, and had to retreat. The french failed in spain because they used tactics of guerrilla warfare. The french kept on sending in troops that were massacred because the spanish used the land: after the defeat of napoleon the french political question was settled by instituting a constitutional monarchy.
