Exeriments performed on human patients are done to test the efficacy of a medical intervention this can focus on the drug, a surgery procedure, or a medical device. Historically (pre-1900s), medicine was poorly controlled and regulated. Thus, experiments were often conducted without control and patient consent was not an ethical issue. Some chronic bacterial and viral infections are associated with the onset of cancer. Infections are believed to cause ~1 in 4 cancers. Hpv has been noted to be the most common cause of cervical cancer, which is the 5th most common cancer type in women. Serotypes: hpv-16, hpv-18, hpv-6, and hpv-11 cause 90% of all cervical cancers. *recently, hpv has also been associated with cancers in males (anal, penile, oral, etc. ) Most of the cancer development requires chronic infection by hpv, since the progression of cancer depends on the immune response against the virus. Guardacil: protects against hpv-16, hpv-18, hpv-6 and hpv-11.
