To build and retain audiences, tv treats news as entertainment with : lots of action, many framiliar faces, few troublesome ideas, lots of fast cuts and short sound bites. Increasingly in canada, they (media owners) have power without accountability - davis taras, political scientist. Ownership concentration where one individual of company owns a number of print or broadcast operations. Cross ownership where an individual or company owns both print or broadcast outlets. Convergence where an owner put their print and broadcast holdings together and tries to run them as a single operations news, commentaries, advertising, promotions, budgets etc. Media monopoly where one individual or company owns all of the print and broadcast outlets in a single market. There are no laws against these things.
