Vichy france- collaborationist regime under marshall petan. Delbo was a fighter against the petan regime. Taken as a political prisoner to subset of auschwitz. Style of writing/technique- she was a journalist so she writes objectively, poetic, some playfulness. Not linear or in chronological order, hard to follow. Brings up roll call multiple times, mind numbing repetition, routine, all times of the day, boredom. Absurd/surreal- things that are out of place: alice"s artificial leg and teeth etc.
