The people who practiced the roman rituals were called pageants. The emperor were often called barbarians, conquered people, who became romanized and christianized. They had a practical minded approach to ruling the empire. It was not self consciously moral it was more practical to avoid meaningless conflict. In 529 of the common era justinian comes to power. Justinian was a fundamentalist and a metllic catholic.
