Document Summary
Female crime: *lombroso & ferrero (1893) criminality is innate, very few born female, the individual and society criminals". Most sociological textbooks present sociology as a divided discipline made up of a number of opposing perspectives that attempt to explain how society works. Two distinguishing features of sociological perspectives are: whether they adopt a structural / macro or social action / micro approach, whether they are based on a consensus or conflict view of society. This perspective emphasises the extent to which our behaviour is shaped by society"s social structures and institutions: Structuralists study society on a macro (large scale) level by looking a the relationship between different institutions in society. They believe that society exists above us and it shapes our behaviour we are like puppets on a string, manipulated by society (the puppeteer). We behave according to society"s norms, values and expectations, which we internalise (they become part of us) through the process of socialisation.
