Document Summary

Isotopes are the variations of neurons for a specified element (protons never change)-----dif masses. Atomic weight- the average of all mass numbers of naturally occurring isotopes based on their abundance. Dalton- way of measurement for atoms( add together protons and neutrons) Electrons move in orbitals w/ up to 2 electrons. --then are grouped into levels of orbital shells (add two per orbital) Molecule= two substances held together by covalent bonds. Because of number of protons in nucleus and the distance betwewn the nucleus and the valance shell polar= not equal share nonpolar= equal share partial charges are signified by delta . Ie . sodium na tends to loose an electron. Ion- an atom or molecule that carries a full charge. Solute: once a substance is dissolved in a substance. Surface tension: when water molecules are at the surface there are no water moleules above them for hydrogen bonding therefore they exhibit stronger attractive forces between neighboring molecules.
