Me te o ro lo g y exa m 3 re vie w s h e e t. Be able to describe how cloud drops form curvature and solute effects. Cloud droplets form by the curvature effect and the solute effect. The curvature effect is when smaller droplet , without nuclei, have greater curvature, and with this more evaporation takes place than in larger droplets. Condensation will not be able to keep up with evaporation in the struggle to maintain saturation. The solute effect requires a condensation nuclei to begin the condensation process. An inseparable solution forms between water and nuclei. Any increase in rh will result in vapor molecules attaching themselves at a faster rate than they leave, causing the droplet to grow. Larger drops that contain nuclei grow at the expense. Of smaller drops that do not contain nuclei.
