People in line at groceries: category- people who share similar characteristics, ex. Family they were your first group, and provide basic orientations to life, it expands later to friends: by providing intimate face-to-face interaction, they give us an identity, they give us identity, a feeling of who we are. By primary groups i mean those characterized by intimate face to face interaction association and cooperation. They are primary in several senses, but chiefly in that they are fundamental in forming the social nature and ideals of the individuals : **primary groups such as family play a key role in the development of the self. As a small group, the family also serves as a buffer from the often threatening larger group as known as society: ex. Significant because their values and attitudes become fused into our identity: views of your primary group become one with yours, and it sticks with you through adulthood.
