Shared belief system of the world that tends to include: supernatural beliefs held by faith, not evidence, moral codes, ritual, division of world into sacred and profane; worship. Supernatural beliefs: deities-personified forced or gods, spirituality-don"t have structured belief system but believe in a higher power, magic-ability to affect the outcome of future events through some form of supernatural force. Superstition-believe that particular object or action will have effects on events. Witchcraft/sorcery- use of object or chants to affect outcome. Prescribed rules regarding behavior particularly with regard to others. Differs from philosophical treatments; based on belief. Structured, repetitive activities at defined locations & times. Designed to connect with supernatural world: church service, prayer, offerings, often done to influence events/ maintain good standings. Designation of higher status and great respect.
