Document Summary

Population is the study of population size and the how/why of any changes. The age structure of a population groups individuals based on their age. Age structures can be used to evaluate population trends and predict upcoming problems. The trends in age structure are the three examples i provided in the presentation that shows a growing population, a stagnant population, and an aging population. A survivorship curve is just a graph showing the average percentage of the population that is alive at any given point of that species" lifespan. Type i organisms have very high infant survival rate and most organisms live for most of their expected lifespan. A k-selection organism tend to have low number of offspring for more parental care and are typically larger. R-selection organisms have incredibly high offspring numbers but receive almost no parental care. K-selection organisms tend to have a lower mortality rate and higher life expectancy than r- selection.
