Document Summary

Ecology is the study of interactions between organisms and their environment. Environmentalism is the attempt to conserve and maintain the environments of earth. Organismal ecology looks at the adaptations organisms have to survive in their habitat. Organismal ecology is important because it is the basis of all the rest of ecology. Population ecology studies the factors that affect population density and growth. A community is the collection of all organisms that interact in a specific region. An ecosystem includes all living and abiotic things in a specific area. An ecosystem contains all the abiotic things in a given area. Biodiversity is the collection of all types of organisms in a specific ecosystem. Human activities are devastating biodiversity almost everywhere they live. Human activities that are affecting biodiversity are poaching and the clearing of land for agriculture. The problem with a loss in biodiversity is that we have no idea how these organisms may interact with their ecosystem.
