Chapter 1: psychology is a way of thinking. Scientists are empiricists: empiricism (aka empirical method or empirical research) the use of verifiable evidence as the basis for conclusions; collecting data systematically and using it to develop, support or challenge a theory. In this theory-data cycle, scientists collect data to test, change or update their theories: this could occur even if you never had a formal research situation, ex: you tap on your inbox but it is not opening. When you test them, you find that your calculator is working, but not your online map app. Therefore, you check your wifi and it looks low. You ask your roommate sitting next to you whether they have wifi problems and they say no.
