Motivation = is the reason why you do things the way you do. = your needs, thoughts, and emotions that give your behaviour energy and direction to achieve a goal. When you are motivated, it gives you energy which is key. It can be taught, developed, and increased: no genes passed on, it can be part of your personality. It can be extinguished can fluctuate depending on what"s going on in your environment. Tend to see more small accomplishments on being important. Look for success even if it"s small: success, participation/longevity in exercise program stick in exercise program. Extrinsic motivation: external drives, ex: scholarship, parents, placement. Longevity intrinsic motivation: more likely to stay in it if it is intrinsically motivating, ex: 3 years old getting a stamp at the end of skate class. After a while, they forget about external rewards, and they become hooked . 3 main theories: behavioural theories focuses on conditioning, or learning from the environment.
