A man who has lived perfectly all his life will not automaically be granted an immortal soul by his own right. The immortality is bestowed by god"s mercy and without him there would be no aterlife. The righteous will be resurrected together, as a community. Third, the physical resurrecion airms not just the soul belongs to god, but the body as well. Asceicism: the concept of resurrecion ensures the jews" acions are valued by god and it keeps. God in the forefront of their mind: resurrecion proves that god is just, merciful and ethical. Life and death: a corollary of jewish belief: god is just. Everyday jews see the righteous sufer and the wicked prosper.
