Chapter 1 introductions: the challenging role of the global manager. Elements of global manager"s environment can be divided into four categories: economic. Managers rely heavily on their own judgement but also on other people, their role, set, and norms in order to understand how to carry out their job. Culture shapes the context of managerial work, which in turn influences managerial roles. Six different types of typology: domestic research. Management studies designed and conducted within a single country without regard for the boundary conditions set by cultural orientation of the country. Attempt to replicate research results first found in one country by repeating the research in other countries. Anticipate the concepts being measured will have the same meaning to the participants in the new culture as they did in the culture in which they study was conceived. Goal: compare the responses in the two culture as closely as possible.
