Osmosis: the physical and the chemistry gradient property for things to spread out to an equilibrium. This creates the chemical/osmotic forces on the ions if there is a chemical gradient. Cell membrane: compose of lipids that disallow the passage of charged (ions) or large molecules (protein) Electromotive force: forces on the ions created by electrostatics.
